2/22/08-A bill has died that would have increased the state’s fuel tax rate by 10 cents.
Sponsored by Delegate Vivian Watts, D-Annandale, HB275 remained in the House Rules Committee at the deadline to advance to the full House, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have increased the cent-per-gallon tax from 17.5 cents to 27.5 cents.
The motor carrier road tax also would have increased by 10 cents per gallon of fuel used in the state.
In addition, motor fuel taxes would have been indexed every two years beginning July 1, 2009.
