2/22/08-A bill has died that sought to designate English as the official language in the state.
Sponsored by Delegate Scott Lingamfelter, R-Woodbridge, HB55 remained in the House Rules Committee at the deadline to advance to the House floor, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have required all government-written communication, including Web sites and official documents, be in English. Exceptions would have been made for court and police documents, health care materials and schools.
