4/4/08-Gov. Chris Gregoire has signed a bill into law to use tolls to help pay for a new $4 billion floating bridge across Lake Washington. The state will pay about half the cost of the Route 520 replacement bridge linking Seattle and the Eastside. Federal and state funding would cover the rest.
The new law, previously HB3096 also calls for a tolling implementation committee tp be put together to propose toll rates to the Legislature.
Also included is a provision requiring the state DOT to partner with the Federal Highway Administration to determine the steps needed to toll the Interstate 90 floating bridge across Lake Washington.
