OOIDA Call to Action - Dane County, Wisconsin, members
Sept. 16, 2008
Attention: Dane County truckers! The County Board could vote as early as Oct. 2 on a proposed ordinance that would impose idling restrictions on large trucks in the county.
The resolution before county supervisors is based in part on the Environmental Protection Agency’s model state idling law. It would restrict idling for more than five minutes in any 60-minute period. Trucks could idle for an additional 15 minutes an hour when temperatures are 39 degrees or colder or above 80 degrees. Violators would face $50 tickets.
Unlimited idling would be allowed when temperatures are minus 10 degrees or colder.
Exceptions to the restriction also would be made for situations when vehicles are stuck in traffic or when idling is necessary to operate auxiliary equipment “that is required to accomplish the intended use of the vehicle. In addition, the idling prohibition would not apply when idling of trucks is necessary for service or repair.
Residents can provide comments on the proposal during a meeting Thursday, Oct. 2, at the City-County Building in Madison, WI. The meeting to accept public comments is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, in Room 201.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, please take time now to contact the board members to share your views on this important topic.
