3/31/08-Gov. Dave Freudenthal has signed a bill into law boosting the fees charged per mile traveled for oversized or overweight trucks. It takes effect July 1.
The new law, previously HB21, increases the oversize single trip permit fee for overweight trucks from $15 to $25. The Minimum fee for an overweight vehicle permit will increase from $25 to $40.
When an overweight permit is issued, the fee will increase from 4 cents to 7.5 cents for each ton or fraction thereof of weight in excess of the weight limitation for each mile traveled on the highways.
A fiscal analysis reports the fee increases are expected to generate $3.5 million in fiscal year 2009, growing to $4.2 million in fiscal year 2011 and each year thereafter. The revenue will be earmarked for the state’s highway fund.
2/26/08-The Legislature’s Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs Committee unanimously approved a bill that would boost the fees charged per mile traveled for oversized or overweight trucks.
HB21 would increase the oversize single trip permit fee for overweight trucks from $15 to $30. The Minimum fee for an overweight vehicle permit would increase from $25 to $50.
When an overweight permit is issued, the fee would increase from 4 cents to 7.5 cents for each ton or fraction thereof of weight in excess of the weight limitation for each mile traveled on the highways.
A fiscal analysis reports the fee increases are expected to generate $3.5 million in fiscal year 2009 and growing to $4.2 million in fiscal year 2011 and each year thereafter. The revenue would be earmarked for the state’s highway fund.
The bill is awaiting consideration on the Senate floor. If approved there, it would head back to the House for approval of changes. House lawmakers previously approved it on a 55-3 vote.

12/28/07-The Joint Interim Committee on Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs voted to offer a bill during the session that begins in February that would boost the fees charged per mile traveled for oversized or overweight trucks.
The measure – HB21 – would increase the oversize single trip permit fee for overweight trucks from $15 to $25. The Minimum fee for an overweight vehicle permit would increase from $25 to $40. When an overweight permit is issued, the fee would increase from 4 cents to 6 cents for each ton or fraction thereof of weight in excess of the weight limitation for each mile traveled on the highways.
A fiscal analysis reports the fee increases are expected to generate $3.5 million in fiscal year 2009 and growing to $4.2 million in fiscal year 2011 and each year thereafter. The revenue would be earmarked for the state’s highway fund.
The regular session is scheduled to begin Feb. 11.
