7/15/09-Gov. Jan Brewer has signed a bill into law that sets the stage for the construction of toll roads.
HB2396 sets the ground rules for the Arizona Department of Transportation to partner with private groups for construction, financing, operation and maintenance of road and bridge projects. The department also is authorized to issue bonds for the work.
Arizona law already enables toll roads but none have been built. The rule was considered outdated.
