OOIDA Call to Action – Colorado members

Dear Colorado Trucker:

Your lawmakers in the State House need to hear from you.  They have a very misguided perspective on the best way to pay for state roads.

Last week, the State Senate approved SB108 and sent it to the House Transportation Committee where it will be considered along with HB1187.

Both of these bills would allow existing interstates to be converted to toll roads with exorbitant fees. 

There are lots of problems with tolls roads and no amount of “innovative finance” mumbo jumbo will change reality.

1. Tolls roads are double taxation at the extreme.
2. They will force drivers to use other less safe roads.
3. Tolls will increase costs for any small business as well as other businesses  in Colorado and cost us all jobs.

On Tuesday night the House Transportation Committee gave their approval to SB108 and sent it on to the House Appropriations Committee.  SB108 could be considered by the Committee as early as Friday, February 20, 2009.

Please contact members of this Committee as soon as possible to share your concerns about converting interstates to toll roads.
