6/5/09-A bill died in committee that sought to allow police to ticket drivers under age 18 caught using an electronic communications device, such as a cell phone, while behind the wheel.
Sponsored by Senate Transportation Chairman Carey Baker, R-Eustis, S212 would have authorized police to ticket violators only after pulling them over for another offense, such as speeding or failure to signal. Offenders would have been assessed one point on their driver’s licenses.
