OOIDA Call to Action - Illinois members
February 12, 2009
Illinois truckers: Urgent action is needed to kill a bill that would have truckers pay twice as much to base plate their trucks. Stop this insanity!
Scheduled for consideration Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the House Transportation Regulation, Roads and Bridges Committee, HB448 would have trucks pay double the flat weight tax rates to be paid each registration year. For truck registrations of 80,000 pounds, the fee for tags would increase to $5,580 – up from $2,790.
To add insult to injury, truckers also would pay more for the commercial distribution fee, which is a 14.35 percent surcharge of the registration fees.
Sponsored by Rep. LaShawn Ford, D-Chicago, the bill would run up the total tab for truckers to about $6,400. What is he thinking?
Please take time now to contact members of the House committee about what HB448 would do to your trucking business.
