OOIDA Call to Action – Illinois members

Illinois truckers: The House Executive Committee is scheduled to consider a bill Wednesday, May 13, that would REDUCE truck registration fees as much as $400. The bill would repeal collection of the annual commercial distribution fee, which is a 14.35 percent surcharge on the registration fees.
The committee meeting is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Make your calls NOW to help push this bill – SB1434 – one step closer to becoming law. The Senate already approved it. The bill needs only House committee approval and endorsement on the House floor to move to Gov. Pat Quinn’s desk.
Lawmakers need to know that the fee of up to $400 that truckers pay each year on license registrations is on top of the nearly $2,800 already shelled out for base plates. That’s nearly $3,200 a year to tag a truck in the state!
The message must be made clear that it is wholly appropriate to eliminate this additional fee on truckers. They should SUPPORT SB1434.
