8/7/09-Gov. Pat Quinn signed a bill into law Aug. 7 to increase the penalty for uninsured drivers who cause wrecks.
Previously HB370, new law specifies that the penalty for driving without insurance and causing an accident resulting in injury or death could result in one year in prison and/or a $2,500 fine. Court supervisions are not an option.
Until now, Illinois law has limited punishment to $500 fines. No additional penalties are doled out if the driver causes an accident.
