3/25/09-A bill died that sought to allow the Kansas Turnpike Authority to charge drivers extra if they speed on the road.
Sponsored by Sen. David Haley, D-Kansas City, S4 failed to advance from the Senate Transportation Committee prior to the deadline, effectively killing it for the year.
The bill would have determined drivers speed by looking at the time vehicles entered and exited the turnpike. A new fee structure for affected drivers would have been determined by the Turnpike Authority.
The bill would not have interfered with the Kansas Highway Patrol’s efforts to patrol the turnpike.
