3/31/09-A bill died in the Senate Transportation Committee that sought to prohibit from using any wireless devices, hand-held or hands-free. The restriction would have applied to cell phone use and text messaging.
Sponsored by Rep. Rick Nelson, D-Middlesboro, HB46 would have made exceptions for emergency calls. As of Jan. 1, 2010, violators would have faced fines from $20 to $100.
The restriction would have applied to young drivers of vehicles, motorcycles or mopeds.
