4/15/09-A bill died that sought to prohibit the use of hand-held cell phones while driving. Hands-free devices would still have been permitted.
Violators would have faced fines between $50 and $250.
Sponsored by Rep. George Hogan, D-Old Orchard Beach, LD40 called for making exceptions for certain drivers, including commercial drivers who use the devices “within the scope of their employment.”
