3/6/09-The Transportation Committee killed a bill that sought to make acts of “road rage” a crime.
Sponsored by Sen. Richard Rosen, R-Bucksport, LD8 would have applied the rule to such acts as sudden acceleration, sudden braking and following too closely. Cutting off another vehicle in a lane or deliberately preventing another vehicle from merging also would have qualified as a crime.
Drivers who honk their vehicle’s horn or flash the lights excessively, make rude gestures and yell obscenities also would have been no-no’s. Offenders would have their driving privileges suspended for 90 days. A court also would have required completion of an anger management course.
