3/13/09-The Senate Transportation Committee voted 8-2 to kill a bill that sought to outlaw cities’ use of automated cameras to ticket drivers.

1/29/09-A bill in the Senate Transportation Committee would outlaw cities’ use of automated cameras to ticket drivers.
The cameras, which are in use in at least two dozen Missouri towns, snap pictures of red-light runners’ or speeders’ vehicles. A ticket is mailed to the vehicles’ owners, regardless of who was driving at the time.
Sponsored by Sen. Jim Lembke, R-Mehlville, SB211 would prohibit local governments from using photo-red systems at intersections.
The bill includes a grandfather clause for cities that already use the enforcement tool.
