6/8/09-A bill died in the House that was intended to prevent transportation money from being diverted for other uses. The Senate previously approved it.
Sponsored by Senate Transportation Chairman John Carona, R-Dallas, Senate Joint Resolution 9 called for limiting the use of tax revenue from the state’s fuel taxes and taxes from the sale of lubricants for vehicles to highway use and schools. Three-fourths of the revenue would have been directed for roads with the rest going for education.
The proposed amendment to the state’s Constitution required voter approval.
