"Fuel Tax Increase on Steroids Moving Through Assembly"

The Legislature Budget Committee has sent to the Assembly a budget proposal that includes a franchise fee on oil companies doing business in Wisconsin.  The franchise fee would be a 2.5% tax on the gross receipts on oil companies.  At $2.50 per gallon, this "hidden tax" would add over 6 cents to the price of a gallon of diesel.  If fuel prices increase dramatically, like last year, the tax per gallon will be double-digit!

Proponents of this legislation have included an "anti-pass through" measure to soft-pedal the franchise fee and make you think this tax won't cost you anything.  If this proposal passes, the anti-pass through provision will be litigated and very likely ruled as unconstitutional thus leaving you paying the bill!

Contact your Representative in the Wisconsin Assembly and oppose the oil franchise fee.  To get contact information for your  Assembly Representative, click here.
