February 27, 2009 - On Wednesday the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that includes a provision that will kill the Mexican trucking pilot program once and for all (section 136).  That legislation, the “FY09 Omnibus Appropriations” bill, will be debated and likely passed by the Senate early next week and sent to the President to be signed into law by the end of next week.

As you well know, it has been a long and drawn out fight to terminate the crossborder trucking pilot program with Mexico.  The battle has been waged in the legislative arena on Capitol Hill, the regulatory realm at the U.S. DOT and, of course, in the Courts.  Calls and letters from truckers to their lawmakers have made a HUGE difference in this fight.

The provision in the omnibus appropriations bill should put an end to the pilot program and to the big money interests’ efforts to open U.S. highways to Mexico-domiciled trucking companies and truck drivers. Those big money interests are still putting pressure on lawmakers to remove or water down the Mexican trucking provision in the omnibus appropriations bill.

With victory close at hand, we all need to contact both of our Senators to tell them to keep the provision intact and end the crossborder trucking pilot program.

Please call both of your Senators today and next week to tell them and their staff to support Section 136 of the omnibus appropriations bill and end the crossborder trucking pilot program.

To contact the 2 Senators from your state, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121, provide the operator with your home state and they will connect you with the appropriate offices.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call the Association at 1-800-444-5791.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE CAPITOL HILL TAKE NOTICE.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR TRUCKERS THROUGHOUT AMERICA.
