OOIDA Call to Action Alert – Speed limiters
March 27, 2009
As you know, the provinces of Ontario and Quebec recently enacted laws that require speed limiters be set to 105 km/h (65 mph), regardless of where the truck is domiciled. OOIDA is working hard to make sure this ridiculous policy doesn’t spread to other Canadian provinces or even to the U.S. To make sure this doesn’t happen, we need your help!
OOIDA is currently evaluating our options with regard to speed limiter laws. To help us in the evaluation process, we need to gather some information from our members.
Are you a U.S. trucker that currently travels to Ontario or Quebec? Did you haul in and out of Ontario or Quebec prior to the enactment of this legislation? If so, please take a few moments to give us some information about you and your operation.
*Have you noticed any degradation in highway safety since these regulations were implemented? (i.e. collisions, dangerous interactions between vehicles, back-ups near on and off ramps, etc.)
*Have you received a speed limiter citation?
*Do you know someone that has received a speed limiter citation?
*Will you continue to haul in Quebec and/or Ontario?
*Have you refused to travel to Quebec and/or Ontario because of the speed limiter law?
*Has the implementation of this law impacted you economically?
You may email your responses to laura_oneill@ooida.com.
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with this very valuable information!!
