OOIDA National Call to Action Alert - "Jason's Law"
May 13, 2009
As you know, Congressman Paul Tonko and Senator Charles Schumer of New York have introduced “Jason’s Law” in the US House of Representatives (H.R.2156) and in the Senate (S.971) to address the national shortage of truck parking. Jason's Law will go a long way towards ensuring that adequate truck parking is available to you and your fellow truckers.
Jason's Law would create a six-year pilot program that would make $120 million available in the form of grants ($20 million per year) for local governments and private companies to increase security and expand parking areas for trucks.
You know all too well about the shortage of safe and secure truck parking areas across the country. Please call your lawmakers in Washington to ask that they commit to supporting Jason’s Law by signing on as cosponsors of H.R.2156 or S.971.
To contact your Representative or your two Senators, simply call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and provide the operator with your home zip code. The operator will connect you to the offices of your lawmakers.
You are also welcome to call OOIDA at (800) 444-5791. Association staff will be happy to provide you contact information for your elected officials.
