4/2/10-The Senate voted 15-14 to kill a proposed ballot initiative that sought to prohibit a photo system from being placed on roads within 600 feet of a speed limit change.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 1059 would have also required vehicles to travel in excess of 11 mph of the posted limit to set off the cameras. Exceptions would have been made in school and work zones. In addition, 35 percent of fine revenue would have been used for new law enforcement equipment.
Voters would have been given the final say on the resolution.

If approved by lawmakers, SCR1059 would go before voters. It now awaits consideration in the Senate Rules Committee.
