OOIDA Information Update - Washington, DC members
September 15, 2010
Dear Member,
A task force in Washington, DC, is recommending the development of a network of toll roads that would include new and existing lanes in the DC region. There is an opportunity to voice concerns about the proposal at a public meeting Wednesday, Sept. 15.
Members of the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board developed a handful of “what if?” scenarios as part of a study. That study, which will be presented to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments on Wednesday, includes recommendations for new toll lanes; the conversion of general purpose lanes to toll lanes; the conversion of high-occupancy vehicle, or HOV lanes, to toll lanes; and additional toll lanes.
Under one scenario, toll rates for cars would range from 20 cents per mile to more than $2 per mile depending on traffic flow and time of day. Toll information for trucks was not provided in the report.
An opportunity to comment is available tomorrow. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments is scheduled to meet to discuss the proposal during a public meeting beginning at noon, Sept. 15, at the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board, 777 N. Capitol St. NE, Suite 300, Washington, DC 20002.
If you cannot attend the meeting, additional opportunities to comment on the proposal are expected in the future.
