OOIDA Information Update – South Carolina members
July 20, 2010

Attention: South Carolina truckers. There is an opportunity next week to make your thoughts known on possible solutions to congestion on a 22-mile stretch of Interstate 85.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation has put out the call for public comments and has scheduled a public meeting that is touted as helping shape the future of the corridor between Greenville and Spartanburg.

Improvements to the corridor are billed as being designed to benefit the two communities and surrounding counties. But that’s not all. Regional traffic between Charlotte, NC, and Atlanta would also be affected.

The public is encouraged to comment during a public meeting beginning at 5 p.m., Thursday, July 29, at the Michelin North America Plant, 1 Parkway South, Greenville, SC 29615. At 5:30 p.m., officials will conduct a formal presentation on the study and the progress being made.

Officials with the state DOT are supposed to be available during the meeting to answer questions about the analysis or possible solutions. Additional public meetings will also be scheduled to share results of the input sessions as well as the I-85 Corridor Analysis Project when it is complete.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can still provide feedback. Simply go to the Public Information Meeting page and scroll down to click on “public comment form.” The comment sheet can be returned by e-mail, or mail to the address listed at the bottom of the sheet by Aug. 12.
