Dear members of Doña Ana County, An important meeting is taking place on July 9 that you should plan on attending. County commissioners need to hear from you so that they understand the need to revise an ordinance that prohibits truck parking on residential property. Until recently, the ordinance was not enforced, but many truckers living in Chaparral, New Mexico, have been receiving citations.

OOIDA National Call to Action
Last Friday Sens. Olympia Snowe, R-ME, and Amy Klobuchar, D-MN, introduced S3483 – the “Motor Carrier Protection Act of 2010.” OOIDA worked closely with the senators to develop this important legislation. OOIDA believes that if passed S3483 will go a long way toward clearing bad brokers out of the trucking industry and ensuring that truckers have significantly better footing when dealing with brokers and other transportation intermediaries.

California Highway Patrol to recognize the ‘best of the best’ through the STAR Awards Program.On September 19, 2010, the California Highway Patrol will recognize nine California motor carriers in the truck and bus industry who are making safety their number one priority in their day-to-day operations.

OOIDA National Call to Action
Attention: OOIDA Members.Tomorrow, U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will be offering a Resolution on the Senate Floor that would suspend efforts currently underway at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) aimed at regulating greenhouse gas emissions.  This vote is considered a test of the direction the U.S. Senate may take in the coming months to pass climate and/or energy related legislation.
