OOIDA CALL TO ACTION
July 30, 2008
Late last night Congressmen Oberstar (D-MN), DeFazio (D-OR), Mica (R-FL) and Duncan (R-TN) introduced HR 6630, a bill that will require the termination of the crossborder pilot program by its anniversary on September 6 and revoke the DOT’s ability to grant Mexico-domiciled carriers authority to operate beyond commercial zones without Congressional approval.
HR 6630 is scheduled to be “marked up” (debated, amended and voted on) in the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee tomorrow morning (7/31). To view the text of the actual bill, click here.
The timing on this bill is very important. As you know, most bets are on DOT extending or expanding the pilot program after September 6 despite having committed to it lasting just one year. And, starting this weekend, Congress is scheduled to be in recess until the week of September 8.
Please contact your Congressman or Congresswoman TODAY to ask them to support HR 6630. This is especially important if your elected representative serves on the House Transportation committee.
To contact your lawmaker in the House of Representatives, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121, provide the operator with your home zip code and they will connect you with his or her office.
