Grain Valley, Mo., September 10, 2008 –The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) thanks its members and other American citizens for reaching out to lawmakers in support of H.R 6630.
The U.S. House of Representatives Tuesday voted 395-18 in favor of a bipartisan bill that not only seeks to end the current program, but also will restrict any more authority to operate beyond the border zones from being doled out to Mexican motor carriers without prior approval from Congress.
“We hope the message is received loud and clear, this time,” said Todd Spencer, Executive Vice President, OOIDA. “The current Administration has time and again defied Congress and the American people to move forward with its cross-border trucking pilot program. For purely economic reasons that will benefit a select few, the Administration has blatantly ignored valid safety and security concerns in its zealous pursuit of opening U.S. highways to truckers and trucking companies based in Mexico.”
The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is a trade association representing the interests of small-business trucking professionals and professional truck drivers. The Association currently has more than 159,000 members in the United States and Canada. OOIDA was established in 1973 and is headquartered in the greater Kansas City, Missouri area.
