Research Partnerships
The OOIDA Foundation due to its unique relationship and affiliation with OOIDA has been asked to partner with various research groups in understanding the effects of various programs on small carriers. The OOIDA Foundation often works with other research groups involved with the trucking industry to assure that the owner-operator and driver class of carriers is represented in any research that affects the industry.
In the last twelve months the OOIDA Foundation has partnered with:
- American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) in looking at the affect that certain on-board safety system would have on small carriers. A number of small carriers were asked to give their opinions and attitudes on; a.) Lane departure warning systems; b.) Roll-over stability systems and; c.) Forward crash avoidance systems. The results are still being processed at this time.
- Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance is looking at driver distraction. The OOIDA Foundation has provided numerous studies on in-cab distraction and continues to offer assistance in research.
- Department of Health and Human Services asked to partner with OOIDA Foundation in looking at Driver Mortality among the owner-operators. The results of that study are to be published in the Journal of occupational and Environmental Medicine.
- OOIDA is a partner in a Department of Homeland Security/Transportation Security Administration program called First Observer. The OOIDA Foundation as the educational and research arm of OOIDA will work as part of the team in outreach and educational efforts. Please see the main page of the OOIDA web page for information.
- OOIDA has initiated a notification or alert program concerning stolen tucks etc. (TRACER) and again as the research and education arm of OOIDA the OOIDA Foundation helps with the outreach, research and education involved.
