2000
Western Star 9400 FX w/600 Cummins; 2001 Great Dane dry van trailer |

Drybox,
everything from paper to tractors. |
|
Family
information: |
Husband,
Bill of 8 years; adult children-Brian, Brad and Amy, and the grandkids. |
|
Favorite
trucking story or moment: |
Great
friends met and good times spent while snowed in somewhere, waiting
for loads, or while I worked at a truckstop. Or just ask me about
a truckdriver wedding. |
|
What
do you like about the industry?: |
There's
always something new to learn about, just around the corner. The
friends I've made traveling through 46 states and the chance to
discover a new quilt shop on a layover. |
|
What
do you dislike about the industry?: |
All
the hassle of different rules for different states and trying to
keep up on them; low freight rates and brokers who think they are
doing us a favor by offering cheap freight; the word "backhaul". |
|
What
makes you successful as an owner-operator?: |
Hubby's
30+ years in the trucking business, hard work, long hours and the
ability to juggle figures, the ability to drive as a husband-wife
team, some common sense. |
|
Why
are you a member of OOIDA?: |
Originally
hubby brought me in as I started to drive 5 years ago. I have found
that Land Line was a good magazine to read to get to know about
the industry; the people working at OOIDA have been most helpful
as we got our own authority and guiding us along the way. |
|
Anything
else you would like to add?: |
I'm
honored to be a board member, be it fact I'm the only woman at this
time with the title (although we all know our spouses do contribute
a lot to our ability to serve on the board). I'm grateful to have
the opportunity to work with such a great group of guys. |
