"Moving
to Green Bay, WI, in 1983, to take driving position with Schneider
Transport. That one decision led me to my wife and 3 children,
and happily, where I'm at today." |

What
do you like about the industry?: |
After
many years of driving, I most enjoy meeting new and different
people and b.s.-ing with them till the wee hours on the radio
as we make our way to our destination. I think the world's problems
have been discussed and solved a thousand times." |

What
do you dislike about the industry?: |
"Abuse
at shippers or receivers dock. Of many difficulties our industry
faces, I think waiting endless hours for little or no pay is causing
many decent drivers to exit the industry." |

What
makes you successful as an owner-operator?: |
"I
have a good lease. Beyond that, an understanding wife who knows,
unfortunately, that sacrifices on family time are made to ensure
our revenue stream. Also, learn to do as much maintenance yourself
as possible." |

Why
are you a member of OOIDA?: |
"Complaining
to other drivers about problems in our industry is something we
all do. Being a member of OOIDA is that next step to do something
constructive. There is power in numbers." |

Anything
else you would like to add?: |
"I've
been a member since 87 or 88? It is tremendously satisfying to
see OOIDA's growth and success. Our successes will multiply many-fold
as growth adds more members. Don't be someone who just complains
about the problems our industry faces. Be proactive...join." |
