OOIDA Call to Action - New York Members
December 17 , 2007
Dear OOIDA Member,
If you live in Congressman Michael Arcuri’s district (NY-24), the Congressman’s staff needs to hear from you!
As you are aware, government officials in Ontario, Canada have stated that they are committed to pushing forward the requirement that all heavy trucks, regardless of domicile, that operate in or through Ontario have a speed limiter set at a maximum speed of 105 k/hr (65 mph). This will greatly impact the State of New York which exports billions of dollars each year in goods to Ontario.
We believe this proposal will hurt trade and will present a significant obstacle to small business truckers. It will greatly impact many New York truckers because if this goes through, you won’t be able to operate in Ontario unless you have a speed limiter on your truck!
If you have concerns about government mandated speed limiters or if you regularly haul goods through Ontario and this will impact your business, please call Congressman Arcuri’s Washington, DC office at 202-225-3665 to share your concerns. Ask to speak to the person handling transportation issues. If you get a voicemail, please leave a message sharing your thoughts and concerns.
Thanks in advance for your help!
