OOIDA: Return to old rules would be misguided

At the end of August, FMCSA and the U.S. Department of Justice asked the DC appeals court to stay their decision to vacate HOS rules, asking for six more months to “get things right.” Annette Sandberg, FMCSA’s administrator said the agency believes a stay is necessary to avoid substantial disruption in the enforcement of HOS requirements.

OOIDA president Jim Johnston said the association supports the FMCSA’s request. OOIDA agrees that any return to the old rules would be misguided.

“We believe an abrupt return to the old HOS rules would create confusion, uncertainty and frustration among truckdrivers and the enforcement community,” Johnston wrote in an Aug. 28 letter to Sandberg.
