The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Oct. 8 said it would hold a series of public meetings on the environmental implications of allowing Mexican-domiciled trucks to operate on U.S. highways.
FMCSA said its performing a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement and a General Conformity Evaluation to address the issue.
The purpose of these meetings is to obtain the publics input on the potential range or scope of environmental impacts and alternatives that should be considered in the PEIS and GCE, the agency said.
Persons wanting to speak at the public meetings should pre-register by calling FMCSAs toll-free hotline number at 1-800-288-5634 and leave a name, phone number, the name of any group, business or agency affiliation and the date and location of the meeting they wish to attend.
The meetings will be held Oct. 21 in El Paso, TX; Oct. 21 in Phoenix; Oct. 22 in San Diego; Oct. 22 in Nogales, AZ; Oct. 23 in Los Angeles; Oct. 27 in Las Cruces, NM; Oct. 27 in Laredo, TX; Oct. 28 in Houston; and Oct. 30 in Washington, DC.
