Director of Government Affairs Appointed at OOIDA
The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, the nation’s only organization representing professional and small-business truckers, appointed Mike Matousek as Director of Government Affairs.
For the past three years, he has been the Director of State Legislative Affairs at OOIDA. He will retain that position at the Association’s headquarters while also directing advocacy efforts with the legislative and regulatory team on Capitol Hill.
Matousek is originally from Enterprise, Fla., and graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Political Science. He began his career in Washington, DC in the office of U.S. Rep. John Mica of Florida. He later joined the staff of U.S. Rep. Sam Graves of Missouri. Congressman Graves currently serves as Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit. Prior to joining OOIDA in 2014, Matousek was a staffer for the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
The Association’s D.C. office is staffed by Director of Legislative Affairs Collin Long and Manager of Federal Affairs Jay Grimes. Going forward, Long will lead the day-to-day operations in the D.C. office, primarily focusing his efforts on legislative activities. Grimes will give his attention to regulatory issues by monitoring rulemakings, attending agency meetings, and participating in working groups with like-minded organizations. He will coordinate efforts and work with the regulatory team to develop and submit comments on behalf of OOIDA membership. Doug Morris, Director of Security Operations, will continue as director of security operations, lending his experience and insights to legislative and regulatory efforts.
“This is very much a team approach, and we believe we have the best people in place to make the biggest impact,” said OOIDA Executive Vice President Todd Spencer.
