Small-business truckers encouraged by infrastructure commitment in first Presidential address before Congress
The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, a national organization that represents small-business truckers, welcomed President Donald Trump’s comments on investing in U.S. infrastructure during tonight’s address before a Joint Session of Congress.
“It’s encouraging that the President recognizes the urgency of improving our nation’s infrastructure and the connection to our economy,” said OOIDA executive vice president Todd Spencer. “Expanding and enhancing highways and bridges should be a major priority going forward for both the Administration and Congress. However, we also caution against the expansion of tolling as a way of paying for such improvements.”
The Association would also like to see the Administration follow through with its pledge to reduce burdensome regulations.
“Small-business truckers make up the majority of trucking and are the backbone of the economy,” added Spencer. “We are open to working with President Trump, Secretary Chao and Members of Congress on solutions that make sense for both consumers and all highway users, from a safety standpoint and economic standpoint.”
