OOIDA wants FMCSA to change name of complaint database
The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association submitted comments to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s information collection for the National Consumer Complaint Database. (Docket # FMCSA-2021-0089, “Agency Information Collection Activities; Proposals, Submissions, and Approvals: National Consumer Complaint Database.”)
The association primarily expressed support for proposed changes to the NCCDB with the exception of one thing: the name of the database. OOIDA believes the name is ambiguous and does not encourage audiences for its intended use which is to report carrier regulation violations and driver coercion.
In submitted comments, the association said, “One possible suggestion for a more logical name would be the “National Truck Safety Hotline and Consumer Complaint Database.” We believe further analyzing the name of the program will be a critical component of the GAO review, especially as GAO makes recommendations regarding stakeholder awareness and participation.”
