I was born Gary William Carr in Hamilton, Ohio 69 years ago. I grew up in Watts, California where I worked with my father before and after school in his vehicle repair shop.

After High School, I served in the U. S. Navy. Upon the completion of my military service, I worked for the Bell System in many non-management and management positions. I earned a Ph. D. in International Economics where I studied the effect of developing communication systems in many U. S. states and foreign countries and the impact these systems would have on their economies. I retired from Ma Bell after 28 years of service, enjoying a career filled with world travel.

I currently reside in Wayne, Maine where I have lived for 19 years. I bought my first truck and refrigerated trailer in May of 1994. I have always worked as an Independent Owner-Operator and I currently move frozen seafood between Seattle and Boston.

I joined OOIDA as a lifetime member in June of 1994 and have served as an alternate on the Board of Directors for one term. OOIDA is the perfect example of the political influence that one voice which represents the wishes of many individuals can have over large, money funded, corporations and a Government who’s regulations control many aspects of our lives and our businesses. I have talked to and helped many drivers understand how belonging to this unique organization can help contribute to the work OOIDA accomplishes.

In my leisure time, I enjoy travel, both domestic and foreign, fishing, riding my Harley, and quilt construction (lots of cold nights in Maine!). I also serve as a member of the Finance Committee for the Town of Wayne, Maine.
